First stop shops

Our First Stop Shops let you to access a whole range of council and other public services in person.

First Stop Shop facilities

  • private interview rooms
  • induction loop
  • freephone access to some council services, for example housing benefits, council tax, customer contact centre
  • access to our language translation service

General information

You can also access service information from leaflets and plasma screen displays in the First Stop Shops.

There is a payment office at each First Stop Shop. This means you can make rent and council tax payments and pay other invoices:

  • Airdrie Payment office: 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4.30pm and 4pm on a Friday
  • Bellshill Payment office: Monday and Tuesday  9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4.30pm 
  • Coatbridge Payment office: 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm and 4pm on a Friday (Card Payment only)
  • Cumbernauld Payment office: 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm and 4pm on a Friday
  • Motherwell Payment office: 9am to 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm and 4pm on a Friday
  • Wishaw Payment office: 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4.30pm and 4pm on a Friday
  • Kilsyth payment office: Monday and Tuesday 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm
  • Moodiesburn payment office: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 10.15am to 1.45pm
  • Shotts payment office: Monday to Friday 9am to 12.45pm
  • Viewpark Payment offices: Thursday and Friday 10.15am to 1.45pm

Deaf BSL users can visit www.contactscotland-bsl.org and an interpreter will relay information between you and a member of staff.

How do I speak to a customer services officer?

On entry to our First Stop Shop select a numbered ticket from the queuing system and you will be called to the service desk by a customer services officer who will assist with your enquiry.

What information can I get from the First Stop Shops?

You can find a wide range of information about council and other public services, and can access some council services directly. For example, you can:

  • report roads, footpath and lighting defects
  • get advice on applications for housing benefits and council or rent rebates
  • request special uplifts and report litter problems
  • request maintenance or repairs to a council house
  • apply for help through the Garden Assistance Scheme
  • collect and submit application forms for all council services
  • find information about council meetings, councillors' surgeries, council vacancies and the electoral register.

Staff at the First Stop Shops will also be able to refer you to services such as debt and money advice, community care and health services, consumer advice and public transport.
